It was places like this that made Norek home sick. Well, home sick for a sort of fantasy that he had. Norek had never spent any long periods of his life in place he would consider home. In fact, the longest time he had spent in one place was his stint as a slave fighter in damned arena. That hell certainly wasn't home. Nor were all the back alley hide outs and camp sites he had been. No, he longed for this. An open place with plenty of air to breathe and woods to run through. Animals to hunt and room to have a family. That was all he really wanted. The freedom and space to make his own life with the small group of people he loved.Such things were not be though. Rarely do dreams come true and often enough when they do you wish they hadn't. Norek sat on the corpse of some old fallen tree in a small clearing in the outer woods. The giant of a tree that he sat on probably shaded this whole area until it fell, hence the sparsely grown saplings popping up every ten yards or so. Norek looked over at one of the young tree and scoffed. "I seem to have forgotten that this whole place in engineered." Norek stood up, grinding his boot heels into the rough back below his feet for added grip. "More likely this place is just some damned arena made by who knows what. The whole place will close off and force me to fight some dragon or other non=sense." Norek shook his head but check his crossbow anyway, no need to be unprepared. He had seen such seemingly innocuous places that quickly turned hellish reflections of themselves. Hopefully his brother would appear before this place changed it's mind about what reality it actually was. "Place is like a finicky wench." Norek muttered.
While he waited Norek moved around the clearing just sort of inspecting the entire area. A habit he had developed in his life and perfected in his afterlife. He searched for little places that might not have solid foot holds. Thick bits of mud or sticks poking up to trip over. Exposed roots, thicker trees or bushes, places where you couldn't be seen from other places. It was simple. Just inspecting the place at hand for advantages and disadvantages. Something most people disregarded. Norel was not most people though,. His life had been constant struggle and his next life proved even more harrying. At times he wondered which life had shaped him more. Or if perhaps he had never actually escaped the arena. Maybe that all had been planned in order to drive him out into a larger and more elaborate arena. That's certainly what it seemed like. Norek dismissed the thought as he always did. His motto, "No fate, no masters." His brother would be here soon. That would help his state of mind. It was always good to have his boisterous and over-righteous brother around. He always helped to keep Norek's thoughts in order. Keep him focused on their goal.
